Fallout From Not Practicing Islam Properly

Familiarize yourself with Ar-Rajal, companion to the fake prophet Musaylimah.

Many people believe that when you don’t practice Islam 100%, you’re not hurting anyone but yourself. But subhanallah, if you look at Ar-Rajal, how many people did he misguide by not practicing Islam? Howmany tens or hundreds or thousands joined Musaylimah because Ar-Rajal endorsed him?

If you work or attend school, look around you. How many “Muslims” do you know who don’t wear a beard, don’t observe hijab, they drink, they go clubbing, they have a girlfriend or boyfriend. And then you tell your boss “Sorry, I can’t come to the bar with you after work, I don’t drink” they say “What! But all my other Muslim employees drink!” or “Ya professer, I can’t attend your lectures because of all the nudity in the content” they say “What! But no other Muslims in the class complained!”

Tafseer by the Sunnah: Uloom ul-Quran

Tafseer by the Sunnah of the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings upon him, has multiple purposes.

  1. Explains: It explains vague commands such as Hajj, and clarifies details. It also explains unclear concepts, such as the “white thread of dawn [seperated from] the black thread of night”.
  2. Connotations: Example forthcoming inshaAllah.
  3. Clarifies: With commands like “amputate the hand of the theif”, it clarifies (they must steal something worth 25 dinar or more, the item must be properly guarded, it cannot be food, etc.)
  4. Intent of Verses: Tafseer by the Sunnah reveals the intent behind verses, such as the last two verses of Surah Fatiha: “not of those who earned your anger, nor of those who went astray” — the Jews earned the anger of Allah, and the Christians went astray. May Allah guide them.
  5. Abbrogation Explaination: Tafseer by the Sunnah sorts out the order of abbrogation. For example, alcohol was mentioned multiple times in the Qur’an–as something with good and evil in it (and more evil then good), as something outlawed, and so on.

Wallahu ‘alim.

The Four Allah Blessed, Reach That Level

In Surah Nisaa, Allah says:

وَمَن يُطِعِ اللّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ فَأُوْلَـئِكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاء وَالصَّالِحِينَ وَحَسُنَ أُولَـئِكَ رَفِيقاً

Translation: And who-so-ever obeys Allah and the Messenger, shall be with those whom Allah has blessed-the Prophets, the truthful (siddiyqin) and the martyrs (shuhada) and the righteous (saliheen). What excellent companions these are that one may get! [Surah An-Nisaa, verse 69]

Prophets are those Allah blessed with divine revelation. Allahu ‘alim, all prophets carry some sort of miracles. Regarding the other three, Mawdudi states1:

Fear the Fire whose Fuel is People and Stones

In Surah Baqarah, verse 24, Allah says:

Translation: […] Fear the fire whose fuel is people and stones (Surah Baqara: 2:24)

Why stones, you ask? Because idols are made of stones. Subhanallah. People and stones will fuel the Hellfire, the way gasoline fuels cars. May Allah protect us all from that horrid end, ameen.

“It has a Ropey Tail and a Trunk.” The Miracle of the Qur’an.

Musaylimah used to pray three times a day. He used to lie and say Qur’an was revealed to him, and he’d make up verses of “Qur’an”. In one instance, the people came to him and asked “was anything revealed?” “Not yet.” And later, “anything yet?” “Nope.”. And later “Anything yet?” “Nope.”

At one point, some people came to him and one said “was anything revealed to the Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم)?” and another replied “Yeah, wal-Asr …” (Surah Asr). So they asked Musaylimah, “Was anything revealed to you, Musaylimah?” and he said something like, “‘The elephant … and what will make you understand the elephant? It has a ropey tail and a long trunk.’1 … What do you think?” and the person said “I swear by Allah, that you know that I know that you’re a liar.” And on the heels of that: “A liar from Rabiyyah (an area in Najd) is more beloved to us then a truthful person from Muddah (where the Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) was from).”

Beware Endorsements: The Fitnah of Ar-Rajal

A man came to the Prophet (salallhu alayhi wa sallam) from Al-Yamamah, learned some Quran, and apostated and joined Musalimah. His kunya (pet-name) was Ar-Rajal (“the man”). He endorsed Musaylimah.

His fitna was more intense then Musaylimah. People thought he was learned and scholarly, and he believed in Musaylimah. It caused a huge doubt among the ignorant people. They felt that if Ar-Rajal listened, they should listen, too.

Today, everyone has endorsements. You need to learn to see beyond the endorsements. If the whole world says it’s haram, and this one shaykh says it’s ok, he endorses it, it causes mass confusion.

Know Your Identity? Know Your Roots

To know your identity, know your roots.

One way to destroy a people is to isolate them from their roots.

Muslims today remain ignorant of their identity. Who was the Prophet, (صلي الله عليه وسلم)? What was he like? Who are Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, ‘Aisha, Az-Zubayr, Abu Darda? Who was Imam Shafi’ee, Imam Malik, Salahuddin (may Allah be pleased with all of them)?

So study your history! Read the seerah of the Prophet, the seerah of the Khulafa, and Islamic history — including major figures like the four imams, Salahuddin, and others.

Qualities of Musaylimah al-Kadhab, False Prophet

Musaylimah al-Kadhab (Musaylimah the Liar) claimed prophethood during the time of the Prophet, sallalahu alayhi wa sallam. He sent a letter to the prophet saying “Good news, I’m a prophet too! So you be the prophet of the Hijaz area (very hilly area near the sea where the Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) resided) and I’ll be the prophet of the Najd area.”

The Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) replied with “From Muhammad the Messenger of Allah to Musaylimah the liar. To proceed. Verily, the land belongs to Allah, and He inherits it to whom he wishes. And the outcome will always be for the believers.”

Benefits of Sacrifice

In Surah Nisaa, Allah says:

Translation: If We had ordered them to sacrifice their lives or to leave their homes, very few of them would have done it. But if they had done what they were (actually) told, it would have been best for them, and would have gone farthest to strengthen their (faith). And We should then have given them from our presence a great reward. And We should have shown them the Straight Way. (Al-Quran, Surah Al-Nisaa, 4:66-68)1

Mujahideen Culture: Khalid bin Walid and Malik ibn An-Nuwayrah

Among the culture of the mujahideen is that they honoured each others’ families. If someone died in battle, their wives were married to people of equal stature after the ‘iddah (mourning period).

Malik ibn An-Nuwayrah, during the time of Abu Bakr as-Siddique, radiallahu ‘an, did not want to pay zakaah. There’s a difference of opinion, and Allahu ‘alim, he (Malik ibn An-Nuwayrah) was not Muslim.

Kahlid bin Walid killed him one night. About this, Abu Bakr said: “He [Khalid, radiallahu ‘anh] made ijtihad and made a mistake.” They kept him in leadership of the army.
