THE Purpose of Creation

Our purpose of creation is one and that is tawheed. Tawheed is making Allah One and Unique in His Lordship (Ruboobiyyah), in His Names and Attributes (Asmaa was Sifaat), and in His rights to be worshiped (Uloohiyyah). There are many blessings associated with tawheed, of them are:

  1. Jannah
  2. a means for sins to be forgiven
  3. the right that Allah has over us
  4. the reason for sending Prophets and Books
  5. the dangers of its opposite – shirk

Ramadan Role Models–Got Any?

Who are your role models? Movie stars? Sports stars? Celebrities? Do we have any role models for Ramadan–people we can look on to and learn from? Let us take a glimpse at how our pious predecessors and the early generations spent their Ramadan.

Their reading of Qur’an in Ramadan:

  • Salam ibn Abi Muti’ informs us that Qatadah used to normally complete reading the Qur’an in 7 days, but in Ramadan, he completed it in three days. Indeed, during the last ten nights of Ramadan, he read the entire Qur’an every night.
  • Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Sulayman tells us that Sa’id ibn Jubayr would complete a reading of the Qur’an every two nights in Ramadan

How much of the Qur’an have YOU planned to finish this Ramadan? How much of it will YOU read with understanding and contemplation?

Where’s Our Dignity?

Of the beautiful Names of Allah is al-Aziz, the Mighty. Al-Aziz is exalted, perfect in Might, He is the One who grants us victory, and He is the one who hates to have his slaves be humiliated. Dignity, Power, and Glory comes from Allah and Allah alone, and no one can attain this without worshiping Allah. It’s time to become a true Abdul-Aziz.

Listen to the podcast to learn how exactly you can become a true Abdul-Aziz!

“As-Salaah! As-Salaah!”

The importance of salaah can be seen in the seerah of our beloved Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم). Allah raised our beloved Prophet to His heights to give him the command of salaah directly, rather than sending it through Angel Jibreel. Also, the importance of salaah is seen in the seerah, when the Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) was on his death bed, when he had the chance to give one last message that he could give his ummah until the Day of Judgment. He cried out, As-Salaah! As-Salaah!

Have you Established the Salaah?

The greatest command after that of tawheed is of salaah. Allah lays out a list for whom this Qur’an is a guidance, and amongst the first things He says are about those who establish the salaah; those who guard them strictly and stand in front of Allah with obedience. The example of Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام) is amongst the best, and as he builds the ka’ba, he makes du’a to Allah to make him amongst those who establish salaah.

Relax! Who are you Racing?

We at times find ourself in a race with salaah. One of the primary ways to gain khushoo in our salaah is to take our time in it, so much so that our Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) told us to be slow and articulate with each movement–we should let all our bones rest and then continue on, not before that. No need to race, because this will come back on the Day of Judgment! Truly, the poorest on that Day will be the one who stole from his salaah by racing through it!

The Prophet’s Sermon on the Reception of Ramadan

Below is a well-published Sermon of the Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه وسلم) on Ramadan; if anyone knows the source, please post it in a comment–it’s well-known as far as the internet goes!

“Indeed ahead of you is the blessed month of Allah. A month of blessing, mercy and forgiveness. A month which, with Allah, is the best of months. Its days, the best of days, its nights, the best of nights, and its hours, the best of hours. It is the month, which invites you to be the guests of Allah and invites you to be one of those near to Him. Each breath you take glorifies Him; your sleep is worship, your deeds are accepted and your supplications are answered. So, ask Allah, your Lord; to give you a sound body and an enlightened heart so you may be able to fast and recite His Book, for only he is unhappy who is devoid of Allah’s forgiveness during this great month.

“If it is sound then the rest of his deeds will be sound…”

Going on about the importance of salaah, salaah is the first matter that a slave/abd/person will be brought account for on the Day of Judgment. So important is salaah, that Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) said that if this one matter is good then everything else will also be good.

Listen to the podcast to gain more understanding on how to make your salaah sound.

Ramadan Tips

If you’re like me… and, well, probably a lot of other people, you won’t fully realize that Ramadan is here until you’re dragging yourself out of bed a few hours early to eat while it’s still dark.

Ramadan offers us a very unique opportunity. Ramadan offers us the opportunity to start fresh. It may not necessarily have the “wash-away-all-your-sins” publicity that Hajj does, but Ramadan gives us a chance to put ourselves through a mind, body and soul detoxification.
